How does Erythromycin work?

It kills the acne-causing bacteria and prevents spots or pimples from appearing.

Quick Suggestions:

• Always take it exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Erythromycin is taken with a full glass of water and can be taken with or without food. Do not skip doses or stop taking it without consulting your healthcare provider
• Avoid consuming alcohol while taking erythromycin as it can increase the risk of side effects such as stomach upset and liver problems
• Drink plenty of water throughout the day to prevent dehydration
• Avoid alcohol while taking Heparin, as alcohol can increase the risk of bleeding
• Attend any follow-up appointments with your healthcare provider as recommended
• Inform your healthcare provider about all medications, supplements, and herbal remedies you are taking
• Let your doctor know if you are pregnant planning for pregnancy or breastfeeding

Indication of Erythromycin

Erythromycin Lotion is an antibiotic used to treat acne (pimples) and some bacterial skin infections. 

Pharmacology

• Active Ingredient: Erythromycin, a bacteriostatic macrolide antibiotic, possibly bactericidal at high concentrations.
• Mechanism of Action: While the precise mechanism for reducing inflammatory lesions of acne vulgaris is unclear, it's believed to be due to the antibiotic action of Erythromycin.

Dosage & Administration

• Apply twice daily (morning and evening) to affected areas after washing with warm water and soap.
• Pat dry before application.
• Apply lightly with fingertips or applicator, avoiding rubbing.
• Hands should be washed after use.
• Can be used on acne lesions on the face, neck, shoulders, chest, and back.
• Discard each container after use.

• Interaction with Clindamycin.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to Erythromycin or any other ingredients in the lotion.

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Safety during pregnancy is not established; use only if benefits outweigh potential risks.
• Erythromycin is excreted in breast milk, so caution is advised when used by nursing mothers

Precautions & Warnings

Storage Conditions:

• A-Mycin 3% Lotion in a cool, dry place below 25 degrees Celsius. Some preparations may contain alcohol and should be kept away from high temperatures due to flammability.
